Shelly Burton, a Testament to Success
Congratulations Shelly Burton of our Stockbridge office for being elected as the 2022 National Treasurer for the Women’s Council of REALTORS®. Cryer campaigned tirelessly for this national position and was able to win because she proved to be extremely passionate about real estate and undoubtedly dedicated to the numerous causes the Women’s Council of REALTORS® champions.
Not only was Cryer elected to the 2022 National Treasurer position, she also currently serves on The Women’s Council of REALTORS® National Executive Committee and their Finance & Budget Committee, all elected positions. Members of The Women’s Council of REALTORS® consistently elect her to growing positions of leadership because she truly embodies what a leader should be. Burton l said it best herself, “It’s important to be a servant leader. A servant leader is one who puts all others above themselves, it’s when you look in the mirror and you know it’s not about you, but about them”.
Burton also holds leadership roles within a number of other organizations. She currently serves as Membership Chair and Local Director for DeKalb, works on the NAR Diversity Committee, serves as GAR State Director, and is a member of the GAR Diversity and Inclusion Task Force. Though serving in these numerous positions keeps Burton busy, she shares that it is extremely manageable. “All of my positions fit together, it’s real estate and protecting personal property rights. Women’s Council as a whole is very active on diversity rights and the rights of women'', Burton explained.
Her career in real estate began in 2012 and she joined the Women’s Council of REALTORS® shortly thereafter. Burton shared that her career catapulted by getting involved with this Women’s Council of REALTOR® who pride themselves on being leaders and providing agents the space and resources to mold agents into true leaders. After a few years in real estate, Burton became the State President of the Women’s Council of REALTORS®. She knew that if she wanted to move to the national level, she needed a big name behind her that already had national recognition. Following that realization, Burton joined Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers. She knew there was power in the name Better Homes and Gardens and learned quickly that our brand values melded with her own.
After joining the company, Burton was pleased with the level of support that surrounded her from the agents in her office, to the office managers to BHGRE leadership. In the following years, Burton has had the opportunity to have productive discussions with Amy Chorew, Vice President of Learning for BHRGE, a firm believer in the Women’s Council as well as interview BHGRE President, Sherry Chris for a NAR conference.
As she steps into the role of the 2022 National Treasurer of Women’s Council of REALTORS® next year, Shelly Burton will also be celebrating her 10th anniversary in real estate. So much can be achieved when you have a passion for what you do, goals for where you want to go, and a team behind you that supports you every step of the way. Burton shared, “65% of real estate brokers are women. Not only do they have a voice at the table but are leading the charge”. We know that Burton will be at the forefront of leading the charge of excellent real estate professionals and we can’t wait to see what she does next.
